Dataset: Alcohol and Sexuality in the Era of AIDS; A Cross-Cultural Nordic Study, 1997

Abstract

In the Nordic countries, sexual culture has been characterized by explicit equality between the genders and different age groups. For most of the 20th century, these countries (with the exeption of Denmark) have also practiced restrictive alcohol policies. During the past decades, this changed. HIV/aids awareness has altered the preconditions of human sexuality, and patterns of alcohol consumption have changed partly owing to increased international contact. This study investigated the patterns of alcohol consumption and sexual conduct of urban people as cultural constructs. It also sought to illuminate how people in different social groups perceive, describe and evaluate their actions and experiences with alcohol in relation to sexual conduct, lifestyle and health. A qualitative subproject was also conducted, but is not a part of this dataset.
